Hollywood heartthrob Luke Perry (pictured), best known for his role in American television's Beverley Hills 90210, will make his West End debut in the new year in a stage adaptation of the hit romantic film comedy, When Harry Met Sally. The play opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 20 February 2004 (previews from 10 February) and is booking up to 29 May 2004.

Rob Reiner's 1989 film of When Harry Met Sally starred Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as one-time college classmates who move to New York and, over many years, hate each other, become friends and, against their own better judgments, eventually fall in love.

Perry will play Harry, while casting continues to find the right Sally. Producer James Tod, who secured the stage rights, told the Daily Mail that the casting of the female lead was critical. "The chemistry is so important," he said.

Playwright Marcy Kahan has adapted the original Nora Ephron screenplay. The premiere stage production will be directed by Loveday Ingram, whose previous West End credits include My One and Only, The Blue Room and Bedroom Farce. No further casting or creative credits have yet been confirmed.
