Moulin Rouge Film Fit for Stage???

By • West End
Stage fans impressed by the theatricality of the recent Baz Luhrmann film, Moulin Rouge, may yet be able to see this story mounted for their favourite medium. In a recent interview, the Australian director himself confirmed that he would like to turn the off-beat love story, about a consumptive dance hall star and a struggling writer in bohemian Paris, into a stage musical. Luhrmann's career began on stage, in opera, and he already has plans to re-stage on Broadway his rendition of Puccini's La boheme, originally done for Australian Opera. Now, he says, he'd also like to bring Moulin Rouge to the Broadway stage within the next two years. He hasn't ruled out film stars Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, both of whom have recently trod the boards in the West End, reprising their roles in the theatre version.
