Round-Heeled Woman Transfers to Aldwych, 30 Nov
Following its current run at Riverside Studios, which finishes on 20 November, A Round-Heeled Woman, based on Jane Juska’s bestselling book about her sexual adventures as a 60-something, will transfer to the West End’s Aldwych Theatre from 30 November 2011 (previews from 24 November).
Gless is perhaps best know for playing Christine Cagney in long-running series Cagney & Lacey. By coincidence, her co-star Tyne Daly, who played Lacey, will also be starring in a West End show this winter when she reprises her Broadway performance in Master Class at the Vaudeville Theatre from January.
A Round-Heeled Woman centres on retired Californian English teacher and divorcee Jane Juska, who realised after 30 years of being “severely deprived” of touch, to place a personals ad in her favourite periodical, The New York Review of Books.
It read ‘Before I turn 67 – next March – I would like to have a lot of sex with a man I like. If you want to talk first, Trollope works for me.’ She received 63 replies, from men aged between 32 and 84, and went on to write of her experiences in A Round-Heeled Woman – My Late-Life Adventures in Sex & Romance.
It has been written for the stage and is directed by British writer/director Jane Prowse, who also co-wrote and directed the Olivier-nominated musical Up on the Roof. Set Design is by Ian Fisher, costume design is by David Blight and lighting by Nick Richings.
A Round-Heeled Woman will run for a strictly limited season at the Aldwych – currently home to Cool Hand Luke – ending on 14 January 2012. It’s produced in London by Brian Eastman, with Andrew Welch as executive producer.
