Newton’s Maiden Posts Closing Notices at Pinter, 31 Dec
Death and the Maiden has posted closing notices at the Harold Pinter Theatre for 31 December. The production, which stars Thandie Newton in her stage debut, had previously been booking until 21 January 2012.
The new production, which also features Anthony Calf and Tom Goodman-Hill, is directed by Royal Court associate director Jeremy Herrin.
Newton plays former political prisoner Paulina Salas in Dorfman’s account of confession and revenge set against the backdrop of a new democracy, emerging from a long period of dictatorship. Although she has never seen the face of her captor, she recalls his voice and mannerisms with terrifying clarity. Years later, and as if by fate, she acts as judge and jury to a man she believes to have been her oppressor.
Death and the Maiden, which is the inaugural production at the recently named Harold Pinter Theatre (formerly the Comedy), is produced by Nick Frankfort and Tobias Round for CMP Limited and Lyndi Adler.
