Opening: Novecento, Harrow, Macbeth, Sellers
Amongst the major London openings, in the West End and further afield, this week are:
OPENING TUESDAY, 2 November 2010, the sixth installment of the Cock Tavern’s Edward Bond Season, Red, Black and Ignorant opens directed by Maja Milatovic-Ovadia. Bond’s 1985 play recieves its first revival in London, just days after the premiere of There Will Be More, Bond’s first new piece of writing in 18 years. Red, Black and Ignorant is the the sixth and final installment of the season, continuing until 13 November.
OPENING WEDNESDAY, 3 November 2010, In-Sook Chappell’s community piece Tales of the Harrow Road, billed as a “riotous clash of storytelling, drama, music hall and bangla pop”, is staged at Soho Theatre for four nights only, before moving to the Cockpit Theatre from 10 to 13 November.
ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, Song of the Goat Theatre’s Macbeth, which began life as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Complete Works season in 2006, arrives at the Barbican Pit. Retold “through an intricately crafted blend of text, movement and polyphonic song” and performed by an international ensemble, it runs until 20 November.
ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, Jonathan Busby directs a new interpretation of ‘Shakespeare’s lost play’ Cardenio at the Warehouse Theatre, Croydon, where it continues until 21 November.
ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, a double bill exploring the lives of real soldiers, My Grandfather’s War and War Notes form The War Season, which runs at the Tristan Bates Theatre until 20 November. Cameron Stewart performs excerpts the World War One diaries of Captain Alexander Stewart in My Grandfather’s War, directed by David Benson whilst Lili La Scala interweaves classic wartime songs with powerful excerpts from soldier’s final letters home in War Notes.
OPENING THURSDAY, 4 November 2010 (previews from 2 November), the Finborough Theatre stages Saturn Returns, which marks the UK debut of American playwright Noah Haidle and continues until 27 November.
ALSO ON THURSDAY (previews from 2 November), to mark the 30-year anniversary of Peter Sellers’ death, David Boyle performs Being Sellers for three weeks (to 19 November) at the new Waterloo East Theatre prior to a New York transfer.
