Would Shrek Make a Monster Hit at Palladium???

Today’s Daily Mail also speculates that the Broadway screen-to-stage musical Shrek will receive its West End premiere at the London Palladium in October 2010 (See The Goss, 6 Jul 2009).

The stage adaptation of the animated films, about a lonely green ogre who finds happiness with the help of a wise-cracking donkey and a tough-talking princess, is produced by Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Productions and, in the company’s theatrical debut, the Hollywood studio Dreamworks (See News, 15 Oct 2004). Shrek – The Musical premiered to mixed reviews in New York last December. It has a score by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. It’s directed by Jason Moore.

According to the Daily Mail, Dreamworks’ Jeffrey Katzenburg and his Broadway creative team have been looking around the 2,300-seat Palladium, which is currently home to another screen-to-stage musical, Sister Act. Shrek has had a mixed reception in New York, where it’s due to close in January.
