1st Night Photos: Bartlett’s Cock Upstairs at Court

There were double entendres aplenty last night as special guests and critics got their first taste of Cock at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs.

The play, Mike Bartlett‘s first for the Court since last year’s Contractions, examines the categorisations of sexuality and features a young man who must choose between his ex-boyfriend and “the woman of his dreams”.

Cock stars Ben Whishaw, who rose to prominence in the title role of Trevor Nunn‘s Old Vic production of Hamlet in 2004 and has since been seen on stage in …Some Trace of Her (NT), Leaves of Glass (Soho), The Seagull (NT) and Mercury Fur (Paines Plough). His film credits include Perfume and Brideshead Revisited.

Directed by James Macdonald (brother of Chris Evans’ former TFI Friday sidekick Will), the cast also includes Paul Jesson, Katherine Parkinson and Andrew Scott.

Cock extends until 19 December (sorry, couldn’t resist).
