M&S Carrier Bags Help Fund New Lyric Roof Garden???

Work began this week on a new “community roof garden” at the Lyric Hammersmith, funded by non-for-profit company HammersmithLondon and the Marks & Spencer 5p carrier bag scheme. The garden will be constructed by environmental charity Groundwork as an “urban oasis”, open to members of the public and theatregoers alike.

The roof garden will be on the first floor of the Hammersmith venue, overlooking Lyric Square, and will apparently feature an “abundance of plants, as well as seating, lighting, an iconic artistic canopy and a performance space”. Materials used to create the garden will be environmentally sustainable, and the space will even include a custom-built wildlife habitat.

Speaking about the new development, the Lyric’s executive director Jessica Hepburn said: “It’s fantastic to be working with HammersmithLondon and with Groundwork. The Lyric Hammersmith terrace will provide a green and oxygen-giving space for everyone in Hammersmith to enjoy, both in the days and in the evening. It’s part of our commitment to making Hammersmith a fantastic place to live, work and relax as well as providing a great night out for theatre goers.”
