Summer Strallen’s current TV stint on Hollyoaks may turn out to be case of art-imitating-life - or is it the other way around? We hear that Strallen, who made a splash as Janet Van de Graaff in the sadly short-lived Broadway transfer of The Drowsy Chaperone, may be returning to the West End in the new year, possibly taking over as Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music at the London Palladium, where Connie Fisher finishes her contract on 23 February 2008.

Strallen - who is also Bonnie Langford's niece and Mary Poppins star Scarlet Strallen’s sister - was Laurence Olivier and Award-nominated for her role as Maisie in the 2006 revival of Sandy Wilson’s The Boy Friend at the Open Air Theatre. Her other West End musical credits include Guys and Dolls, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Cats and Scrooge.

She can currently be seen on screen playing the role of Summer Shaw in the Channel 4 teen soap, Hollyoaks in which her character is described as “a confident, talented young lady, Summer will stop at nothing in her relentless pursuit of stardom.” Coincidence? Perhaps not, but what a great marketing tactic!
