The Bush Theatre has put together a crack team for Steve Thompson’s new political satire Whipping It Up, which opens tonight (10 November 2006). Terry Johnson directs a cast that includes Richard Wilson, Robert Bathurst and Helen Schlesinger. The comedy is set one week before Christmas, when the new Tory government is facing dissent over its latest bill. With a majority of only three, the whips are out in force and will stop at nothing to keep the strays in line. Thompson’s last play, Damages, which premiered at the Bush, won the 2005 Meyer-Whitworth Award. Though we’ll have to wait to see what the critics think tonight, the Bush is hoping this is a production that’s West End-bound.
