TV newsreader Jon Snow is about to make a bard career move. In a new production of Romeo and Juliet at the Broadway Studio Theatre in Lewisham, south London, Snow will play The Chorus, reporting on the conflict between the Montague and Capulet households in a production which has been updated to a modern Middle Eastern war zone. The play, which starts performances on Wednesday (15 November 2006) for a four-week run to 16 December 2006, features pre-recorded footage by Snow, which will appear on a screen during the performance. Producer Martin Costello said: “In the context of our setting, an un-named war-torn area of the Middle East, Jon Snow’s appearance as a war journalist, reporting on the conflict between the Montagues and Capulets, is perfect.” The production is directed by Cameron Jack and also stars Jack Roth (son of Tim Roth) as Romeo and Harry Long (son of Snow’s friend, broadcaster James Long) as Benvolio.
