How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? winner Connie Fisher may have to worry about more than the critics’ opinions tomorrow night (15 November 2006). Julie Andrews, who immortalised the part of the nun-turned-nanny in the 1965 Oscar-winning film version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic, is rumoured to be attending the much-anticipated opening at the London Palladium. It’s sure to be a star-studded gathering (be sure to check out our 1st Night Photos and TV coverage the morning after!). Amongst others who’ve also been invited are the other nine How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? finalists. It won’t be the only time the former contestants will have a chance to reunite over the coming weeks. Abi Finley – aka ‘Tomboy Maria’, who lasted through to the penultimate round in the TV competition and who opens this month in Tim Rice’s Blondel - is confirmed to sing at our Theatregoers’ Choice Awards launch party on 1 December 2006. Amongst the other Marias also confirmed to attend to date are: Simona Armstrong, Aoife Mulholland, Leanne Dobinson, Meliz Serman and Belinda Evans (See News, 10 Nov 2006).
