It was reported last week that Andrew Lloyd Webber was working on a new musical based on Wilkie Collins' 19th-century romantic novel The Woman in White, about a man who meets a mysterious woman (dressed in white) on a road one night and helps her flee from pursuers. Speaking to chat show host Michael Parkinson this weekend, Lloyd Webber confirmed the project but revealed that it was very early days indeed - he only finished reading the book last week. Apparently, the idea came about following an appearance on another chat show, hosted by Frank Skinner (See The Goss, 25 Sep 2002), when he said he was short of subject matter and was subsequently inundated with suggestions.
