Next year, theatregoers may have the unique opportunity of seeing the one and only Neil Diamond go head to head with the late Freddie Mercury and Buddy Holly in the West End. Producers of Sweet Caroline - a stage musical biopic of the singer which is subtitled "A Musical Celebration of the Legendary Neil Diamond" - are in negotiations to bring the show into London where Buddy is now in its 13th year and the Queen musical We Will Rock You is due to open in May. Backed by an eight-piece band, Sweet Caroline will feature a trio of Diamond impersonators singing nearly 30 of the singer's greatest hits in a celebration of his career highlights. Still recording and touring, Neil Diamond has sold more than 115 million albums worldwide. His many hits include "Cherry Cherry", "I'm a Believer", "Daydream Believer", "Hello Again", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Forever in Blue Jeans" and, of course, "Sweet Caroline".
