WOS Radio: #WOSOuting to A Chorus of Disapproval

Last night (3 October 2012) we took nearly 200 theatregoers to see Trevor Nunn’s West End revival of Alan Ayckbourn’s amdram comedy A Chorus of Disapproval.

The production, which stars Rob Brydon (making his West End acting debut), Nigel Harman and Ashley Jensen, is booking at the Harold Pinter Theatre until 5 January 2013.

The 1984 comedy follows a provincial Operatic Society’s production of The Beggar’s Opera, and the
small-town squabbles and backstage romances it brings about.

Nigel Harman, Ashley Jensen & Rob Brydon during the Q&A

Following the show, we were joined by Rob Brydon, Nigel Harman and Ashley Jensen for a lively (and hilarious) Q&A.

Brydon and Jensen told us how the show was their respective West End debuts, and the excitement that that brings. They then talked about singing in the show, with Jensen admitting her initial trepidation, particularly given the experience of some of the other cast.

They talked about working with Trevor Nunn, and also the challenges that the play presents – particularly the play within a play aspect of it. Harman also talked about his experiences of amdram growing up, and how he recognises a lot of the characters in it.

Finally, they talked about Ayckbourn’s involvement in the show, as well as parts of it which they found funny but audiences didn’t!
