Tommy revived for one-off concert starring Daniel Boys, 12 Nov

By • West End
The Who's rock opera Tommy is being revived for a one-off charity concert at the West End's Prince Edward Theatre (current home of Jersey Boys) on 12 November 2012.

This show, which is being staged in aid of the Pure Theatre Development Fund, will star familiar West End names Daniel Boys (Captain Walker), Hannah Jane Fox (Mrs Walker) and Zoe Birkett (The Acid Queen), with further casting to be announced.

First performed by The Who in 1969, Tommy is a serious musical about a troubled child who becomes deaf, dumb and blind, but later gains the respect of his peers when he’s revealed as a pinball champion.

A film of The Who’s original album was made in 1975 by Ken Russell. The subsequent stage show won three Tony Awards on Broadway in 1993 and, in London, won the 1997 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production.

The production has music and lyrics by Pete Townshend, book by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff and additional music and lyrics by John Entwistle and Keith Moon.

Directed by Raz Shaw, the concert performance will be choreographed by Adam Cooper, with musical supervision by Iain Vince Gatt and musical direction by Andrew Hilton.

The Pure Theatre Development Fund has been set up with the aim of funding the development of new writing in musicals and straight theatre. According to press, "the fund will facilitate workshops and readings of new writing and will be launched in conjunction with this exciting production."

Tickets for Tommy are available online at www.delfontmackintosh .co.uk and at the box office on 0844 482 5151.
