Casting announced for Crimp’s Republic of Happiness at Court

Casting has been announced for Martin Crimp‘s new play In the Republic of Happiness, which runs at the Royal Court from 12 December 2012 to 19 January 2013 (previews from 6 December).

The cast is: Anna Calder-Marshall (Salt, Root and Roe), Emma Fielding (Playing With Fire), Seline Hizli (Jumpy), Ellie Kendrick (Romeo and Juliet, Globe), Stuart McQuarrie (Wanderlust, Clybourne Park), Paul Ready (Wastwater), Michelle Terry (Tribes) and Peter Wight (In Basildon).

The production will be directed by outgoing artistic director Dominic Cooke, with set design by Miriam Buether, costumes by Moritz Junge, lighting by Peter Mumford, music by Roald van Oosten, sound by Paul Arditti and music direction by James Fortune.

The play centres on a family Christmas, which is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Uncle Bob (Paul Ready). Who is he? Why has he come? Why does his wife stay out in the car? And what is the meaning of his long and outrageous message?

Martin Crimp‘s last play at the Royal Court was The City, directed by Katie Mitchell, in 2008. His previous Royal Court credits include Attempts On Her Life, The Country, Face to the Wall, Fewer Emergencies, Advice to Iraqi Women, The Treatment, No One Sees the Video and a translation of The Chairs (with Complicité).
