WOS TV: Michael Ball On … Going from Edna to Sweeney

Michael Ball is currently starring alongside Imelda Staunton in Sweeney Todd, which is hotly tipped to transfer to the West End next spring following its current run at Chichester Festival Theatre, where it finishes this week (5 November 2011).

Ball is a two-time Whatsonstage.com Award winner (for Hairspray and The Woman in White), while his other stage credits include originating the role of Marius in Les Miserables and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera and Aspects of Love.

Not only famed for his theatrical work, his concerts and albums share equal success. He is about to release his latest DVD, a recording of his Heroes Live tour, which comes out on 14 November (click here for your chance to win one of six copies in our Whatsonstage.com competition!)

Our video reporter Joe Pike recently travelled to Chichester for a chat with the great man to find out how he found going from Edna Turnblad to Sweeney Todd (a role he describes as “the biggest challenge of my career”), as well as hear his advice for young actors and his reflections on the highs and lows of a busy couple of years…

Six lucky people can get their hands on both the HEROES LIVE DVD and PAST AND PRESENT album simply by following the link to the Whatsonstage.com Facebook page and ‘liking’ Whatsonstage.com. Then just answer our easy Michael Ball competition question by clicking here.
