1st Night Photos: Starry Opening for Married

The all-star revival of JB Priestly’s When We Are Married opened at the Garrick Theatre last night (28 October 2010, previews from 19 October) where it is booking for a limited season until 26 February 2011.

Directed by Christopher Luscombe, the cast includes Roy Hudd, Maureen Lipman, Simon Rouse and Sam Kelly amongst the three respectable couples who find out that despite getting married together in the same church on the same day 25 years ago, the vicar was never licensed and they aren’t actually married.

The cast were joined on their opening night by celebrities including comedian Frank Skinner, former Cabinet Minister Cecil Parkinson and singer Diana Vickers.

Priestly’s drawing-room comedy, which centres on issues of class and hypocrisy stars an ensemble cast including Maureen Lipman (Clara Soppitt), Roy Hudd (Henry Ormonroyd), Rosemary Ashe (Lottie Grady), Lynda Baron (Mrs Northrop), Susie Blake (Maria Helliwell), Michele Dotrice (Annie Parker), David Horovitch (Joseph Helliwell), Sam Kelly (Herbert Soppitt) and Simon Rouse (Albert Parker).

The last West End outing for When We Are Married was at the Savoy Theatre in 1996, in a transfer from Chichester Festival Theatre. More recently, it was revived at West Yorkshire Playhouse last year.
