You no doubt noticed the theatricality inherent in politics following this month’s succession of party conferences. But just to prove the point, we wanted to share these amusing pictures with you.

The puppets from Avenue Q, now running at the West End’s Gielgud Theatre, paid a special visit to Brighton and the Labour Party Conference, where they joined the throng of campaigners outside the conference centre lobbying for their own particular issues. These included gay rights for puppets, free porn on the NHS and more beer. Shouting slogans such as "make my assets grow" and "more schools for people of fur", the little fiends sent delegates into Gordon Brown's speech laughing.
