Photos: Mel C in Brothers as Brachetti Changes

Spice Girl Mel C (full name Melanie Chisholm) made her theatrical debut on Monday (26 October 2009) when she took over the role of Mrs Johnstone in long-running musical Blood Brothers at the West End’s Phoenix Theatre (See News, 8 Sep 2009).
One fifth of the chart-topping girl group, Mel C (aka ‘Sporty Spice’) is the first of the Spice Girls to be cast in a West End production. She follows in the footsteps of stars including Barbara Dickson, Kiki Dee, Carole King, Helen Reddy and most recent incumbent Niki Evans in Willy Russell’s Olivier award-winning musical.

Also celebrating opening night this week in the West End was Italian quick-change artist Arturo Brachetti, presenting his new one-man show Change at the Garrick Theatre (See News, 27 Aug 2009).

The show, which is written and directed by The Right Size’s Sean Foley, sees Brachetti bring over 100 characters to the stage, from James Bond to the Queen via Johnny Rotten, in a series of astonishing quick change impressions, and runs for a limited season to 3 January 2010.
