A revue featuring the songs of Stephen Schwartz - whose musical scores include Godspell, Children of Eden, Pippin and Wicked, which had its West End premiere last month at the Apollo Victoria - will hit the London stage next month, starring Frances Ruffelle and Paul Nicholas. Entitled Schwartz Stories, it will open at north London’s King’s Head for a limited run from 10 November to 3 December 2006 (previews from 7 November).

In revue, devised by musical theatre actors Mark Powell and John Cusworth, three couples attempt to unravel their tangled lives and relationships. Paul Nicholas, who starred in the original London production of Schwartz’s Godspell, narrates the piece.

Frances Ruffelle appeared in the original West End cast of Schwartz’s Children of Eden, and won a Tony for her role as Eponine in the original cast of Les Miserables. Her other stage credits include Chicago and Starlight Express. She’s joined in the cast by Paul Baker (Taboo), Alex Beuselinck (The King and I), Carys Grant (Rent) and Annalisa Rossi (Mary Poppins).

Schwartz Stories was previously seen at in a workshop production London’s Finborough Theatre and at the Edinburgh Fringe. It has been reworked by the writers and Schwartz himself. This new production is directed by Joseph C Walsh with musical direction by Simon Sharp.
