Wood & Walters Shine Up Antiques for Stage???

By • West End
Acorn Antiques - comedienne Victoria Wood’s 1980s BBC spoof on ITV soap opera Crossroads, with its wooden acting style and flimsy sets – is being dusted off and given a musical makeover. According to today’s Daily Mail, Wood and Julie Walters, the stars of the TV series, are now having voice and dancing lessons in order to alternate in the role of Ms Overall in the musical. They’ll be joined by Duncan Preston, who also appeared in the TV original. Wood has written new material for the stage version, which was commissioned years ago by director Trevor Nunn. It’s being designed by Stephen Brimson Lewis and Lez Brotherston and produced by Phil McIntyre, the force behind Queen musical We Will Rock You, still going strong at the Dominion. A venue has not yet been confirmed for Acorn Antiques, which is on target to open in early 2005.
