According to the Guardian, the events leading up to the demise of London’s Bridewell Theatre will “send a cold wind through the arts” (See News, 7 Oct 2004). The Bridewell’s artistic director Carol Metcalfe was informed that the funding was too tight for the 2006-2009 period to “embrace new clients” while existing clients will only be permitted inflationary rises. Is it time to tighten the belt?
