Celebs turned out in force last night at the Shaftesbury Theatre for the West End premiere of Broadway musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, starring Amanda Holden in the title role with Maureen Lipman and Sheila Ferguson. Amongst the showbiz names in attendance were Diana Rigg, Brenda Blethyn, Claire Sweeney, Derek Jacobi, Sue Johnston, Paul O'Grady (aka Lily Savage), Michael Winner and the leading lady's Cutting It co-stars Sarah Parish and Ben Daniels (who's just finished a stage run himself in the National's Three Sisters). More unusually, Conservative Party leader Ian Duncan Smith also turned up. The irony of the storyline - in which a secretary woos her boss - wasn't lost on all, though IDS himself didn't seem to mind. He joined in enthusiastically with the standing ovation at the curtain call.
