English Touring Theatre's Romeo and Juliet came to an abrupt halt in Malvern on Friday night when Laura Rees's Juliet took a dive during the play's famous balcony scene. Rees was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist and injured back. According to an ETT spokesman, she's on the mend and should make a full recovery. The rest of Friday's performance and Saturday's were cancelled, but after a scheduled break in the tour this week, ETT expects to resume the show from 15 October 2003 in Oxford. Juliet's fall comes just days after an accident at Birmingham's Alexandra Theatre, where the stage collapsed into the orchestra pit, injuring more than a dozen theatregoers, during a presentation of karaoke film phenomenon Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music.
