Broadway legend Bernadette Peters is being tipped for her long-awaited West End debut, in a new version of Stephen Sondheim's Gypsy. Peters' career has spanned four decades, embracing such classics as Mack and Mabel, Dames at Sea, Annie Get Your Gun, Sunday In the Park With George and Into the Woods. She has won two Tony Awards, and is scheduled to release a new album next year too. Peters was born in 1948 and received her actors' Equity Card at the tender age of nine. Indeed, the story of Gypsy, with its determined mother pushing her children towards stage careers, echoes Peters' own in some ways. It opened in New York in 1962, and the first London production starred Angela Lansbury.
