Neeson, Barlow & Stone lend voices to new War of the Worlds album

Liam Neeson, Gary Barlow and Joss Stone have lent their voices to a new recording of War of the Worlds, which embarks on a new UK tour later this year.

Barlow and Stone lead the vocals on the record, which is released on 12 November, while Neeson takes the role of Narrator – the part voiced by Richard Burton on Jeff Wayne‘s original 1978 concept album.

Wayne told the BBC: “To revisit something that worked so well for me but in modern times I can do things that I could never have done technologically in the mid-70s when I first composed and produced it. It was a great and exciting challenge.”

The musical is based on HG Wells’ story about an alien invasion of Victorian England. The new production will feature Neeson’s 3D holographic character interacting with the live performers on stage.

Gary Barlow, who will sing “Forever Autumn” and “The Eve of the War” on the new album, said via Twitter: “I’m honoured to be a guest on The War of the Worlds record. I’ve always loved this album and I’m the biggest fan of its creator Jeff Wayne.”

War of the Worlds – The New Generation opens at the Liverpool
Echo Arena on 1 December 2012, subsequently visiting Cardiff,
Nottingham, London (Wembley Arena – 6 December), Birmingham, Manchester,
Sheffield, Newcastle, Glasgow, Bournemouth, London (O2 Arena – 15
December) and Brighton.
