Janie Dee & Rupert Wickham Star in Nottingham Private Lives
Real life husband and wife Rupert Wickham and Janie Dee will star as Noel Coward’s legendary feuding lovers Elyot and Amanda in a revival of Private Lives at Nottingham Playhouse next month.
Private Lives centres on divorcees Amanda and Elyot who find themselves honeymooning with their new spouses in the same hotel in the South of France with dramatic (and hilarious) consequences. It has long been one of Coward’s most oft-revived plays, and had an outing in the West End last year starring Kim Cattrall and Matthew Macfadyen.
Janie Dee’s recent theatre credits include All’s Well That Ends Well (Globe) and Peter Hall’s revival of Betrayal (West End), as well as Much Ado About Nothing, Design for Living, Old Times and The Apple Cart. For Alan Ayckbourn she created the role of Jacie Triplethree in his Comic Potential (West End, NYC, Stephen Joseph Theatre) and received the Best Actress Olivier among other awards. She also created the role of Joanna in his House and Garden and recreated his Woman in Mind for the West End in 2009.
Rupert Wickham has appeared in productions including Judi Dench’s Romeo and Juliet at Regent’s Park and Nicholas Hytner’s Henry V at the National, as well as The Importance of Being Earnest (Manchester Royal Exchange) and the title role in Quartermaine’s Terms (Salisbury Playhouse). Film and television credits include Band of Brothers, The Bourne Identity, The Brylcreem Boys, A Dance to the Music of Time and Waking The Dead.
