Tricycle Hosts Greig’s Midsummer for Christmas

David Greig and Gordon McIntyre’s popular ‘play with songs’ Midsummer is returning to London later this year for a festive run at Kilburn’s Tricycle Theatre (30 November 2010 to 29 January 2011, preview 29 November).

The show, which arrives in the capital as part of a new 15-week tour, was first produced at the Traverse in 2008 and has since toured internationally, including a sell-out run at the Soho Theatre earlier this year.

Starting out as a pilot project of the Traverse Theatre’s experimental strand of work, Traverse Too, Midsummer (a play with songs) is the story of Bob and Helena, an ill-advised love match and their great lost weekend.

This revival features the original cast of Cora Bissett as Helena and Matthew Pidgeon as Bob, and will be staged in the Traverse Theatre’s main house in the opening run of the tour. It will subsequently visit the Tron Theatre, Glasgow, Kennedy Center, Washington DC, Theatre Royal (Ustinov) Bath and the Tricycle.

Written by playwright David Greig with songs by indie musician Gordon McIntyre, Midsummer is designed by Georgia McGuinness, with lighting by Claire Elliot.
