Arlene Phillips Back to ‘Day Job’ with Sacred Flame
Arlene Phillips is directing and choreographing a new “dance musical spectacular”, entitled Sacred Flame, which will receive its world premiere at the O2 Arena on 28 December and star Marti Pellow.
Sacred Flame is set in modern day South America and follows the story of Anton, a teenage boy who journeys to Peru to understand why he was given away as a baby. Former Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow stars as the show’s villain and lead singer, while Lord of the Dance composer, Ronan Hardiman, will “mastermind the infectious Latin rhythms”.
Phillips, whose choreography credits include Grease, We Will Rock You and Starlight Express, described the project today as a return to her theatre “day job”, adding: “For years now I have done two or three shows a year. I have always loved theatre and I will always do it.”
Asked about her views on replacement Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon, she replied “I don’t have time to watch TV”.
David Campbell, head of AEG Europe, owners and operators of the O2, said: “Sacred Flame will be an event not to be missed by any musical theatre fan. I am thrilled that the O2 will host the premier of the production and I know the world-class team behind the show will make it an event to remember.”
