Alderton & Collins Couple for Going Straight Tour

By • West End
Real-life couple John Alderton and Pauline Collins (pictured) will this week be reunited on stage for the first time in 20 years. They star, along with their daughter Kate Alderton, in the world premiere of Richard Harris’ Going Straight, which opens on 3 September 2004 at Theatre Royal Windsor before touring, until 6 November, to seven further venues.

Going Straight centres around two old gangsters settling into the quiet life of retirement...or are they? Loveable lags Mickey and Ray, friends from the 'good old days' in London's East End, get together to recount their colourful past in sun-drenched Costa Del Sol. But, when a film researcher arrives to do a make-shift interview amidst wives with their own agendas, a graceful retirement might not be on the cards after all.

Over their careers, Alderton and Collins have appeared together numerous times, particularly on screen in series such as Upstairs, Downstairs, Forever Green, No Honestly, Thomas and Sarah and, most recently in 2000’s Mrs Caldicot’s Cabbage War. Separately, Alderton’s other credits include Please Sir! and Calendar Girls, while Collins is also well known for the likes of Shirley Valentine and City of Joy.

Going Straight is directed by Alan Strachan and designed by Hayden Griffin. It’s presented on tour by Bill Kenwright Ltd. Following Windsor, the production visits Woking, Bath, Nottingham, Malvern, Darlington, Brighton and Richmond.
