Liaisons Likely for November Opening???

By • West End
Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses is expected to make a return to the West End this autumn. According to Variety, an as-yet-uncast production, directed by Tim Fywell (I Capture the Castle), is gearing up for a November opening. Based on the 1782 novel by Choderlos de Laclos, Hampton's stage adaptation premiered at the RSC in 1985 in a production, starring Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan, that transferred to Broadway and won numerous awards including the Olivier for Best New Play. In 1988, it was famously made into the Hollywood film Dangerous Liaisons, with John Malkovich and Glenn Close in the leads and Michelle Pfeiffer playing Valmont's virtuous conquest Madame de Tourvel. Earlier this year (See News, 28 Feb 2003), the play was revived, with Rupert Penry-Jones and Dervla Kirwan, in a production at Bristol Old Vic directed by Award-winning Best Actor Samuel West.
