Kreutzer Sonata Returns to Gate Ahead of New York

Natalie Abrahami’s 2009 production of The Kreutzer Sonata is returning to the Gate Theatre early next year for a six-week run prior to a New York transfer.

The play, which is adapted from Tolstoy’s novella by Nancy Harris (who is currently Pearson Playwright in Residence at the Bush), “broke all box office records” at the Notting Hill venue during its original run, according to press material.

Hilton McRae will reprise his role as jealous husband Posdnyshev. Also returning are original cast members Sophie Scott, as Posdnyshev’s wife, and Tobias Beer as her supposed lover Trukhachevski.

The Kreutzer Sonata, which runs at the Gate from 6 January to 18 February 2012, will transfer to La MaMa E.T.C. in New York, to be presented as part of La MaMa’s 50th Anniversary season from 8 to 25 March 2012.
