2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival Launches This Weekend

The 2011 Edinburgh Fringe officially launched today (5 August 2011) and continues for three weeks to 29 August. The world’s largest arts festival is larger than ever this year with a record-breaking 2,542 shows – 89 more than last year – staged by an estimated 21,192 performers giving 41,689 performances of those shows in 258 venues.

The Fringe is also larger than ever on Whatsonstage.com. We are carrying all of the Edinburgh Fringe listings, have already commissioned nearly 500 reviews, to be written by a 30-strong team of reviewers, including chief critic Michael Coveney, editorial director Terri Paddock, deputy editors Theo Bosanquet and Andrew Girvan, blogger Jo Caird and Scotland editor Keith Paterson.

This year’s coverage also includes more than 70 scheduled interviews with Fringe performers, contributions from some 20 bloggers, including 15 “community” theatre practitioner bloggers sharing all aspects – the highs and lows – of their festival experience, bi-weekly countdown features, news, reviews, gossip, photos, videos, tweeting, press releases, round-ups of reviews from our partners in the Festival Media Network and much more.
