WOS Radio: Burn the Floor WOS Q&A Is Scorcher

Theatregoers at our Whatsonstage.com Outing to dance spectacular Burn the Floor at the West End’s Shaftesbury Theatre last night (9 August 2010) were treated to a post-show Q&A with the entire company, including Strictly Come Dancing “golden couple” Brian Fortuna and Ali Bastian, as well as show producer Harley Medcalf and director and choreographer Jason Gilkison.

First conceived as a special performance at Elton John‘s 50th birthday celebration in 1997, two years later Burn the Floor made its world premiere in Bournemouth and has since played in over 30 countries. It has now returned to the UK for a limited season until 4 September 2010 following a six-month run on Broadway last year. Burn the Floor takes audiences on a journey through the passionate drama of dance. The elegance of the Viennese Waltz, the exuberance of the Jive, the intensity of the Paso Doble, as well as the Tango, Samba, Mambo, Quickstep, and Swing.

Highlights from last night’s Q&A included Ali Bastian on the intensity of rehearsals in order to hold her own on stage with the highly accomplished company, Brian Fortuna on life after Strictly Come Dancing, Harley Medcalf on plans for an annual London residency, tips on how not to fall over when spinning, and an on-the-spot dance challenge to the show’s two vocalists.
