Burn the Floor Returns for Annual Residency???

Latin and ballroom dance show Burn the Floor’s current stint at the Shaftesbury Theatre, 11 years after its premiere in Bournemouth, may be its first West End season but it’s unlikely to be its last. Producer Harley Medcalf told theatregoers that, after making good on his long-held dream to bring the show to the West End, he now intends to bring it back for a limited engagement once a year as part of its ongoing international schedule – an announcement that was greeted with enthusiastic applause by the audience at our exclusive post-show Q&A with the Medcalf, director/choreographer Jason Gilikson and the full company, including Strictly Come Dancing couple Brian Fortuna and Ali Bastian. To date, Burn the Floor has been seen in more than 30 countries and comes to the West End via an extended Broadway season. It continues at the Shaftesbury until 4 September 2010.

Beyond that, theatregoers will still be able to see one of the Burn the Floor cast, vocalist Ricky Rojas, at the same address. He’s signed up to appear in the theatre’s next resident, screen-to-stage musical Flashdance. Last night was also significant for the cast as it marked the swansong performance for long-serving British dancer Robin Windsor, who, after eight years with the show, leaves to join Strictly Come Dancing. There were tears and cheers.
