Alan Bennett’s multi award-winning play The History Boys may be heading back to London yet again. It’s tipped to return to Wyndham’s Theatre - where it had its belated West End premiere this past January and ran until April – towards the end of the year. Before any London dates, it’s back on the road for its third UK tour, hitting ten venues over two months from 6 September to 17 November (See News, 4 May 2007).

Set in the 1980s, The History Boys questions the purpose and means of education. In a school where the headmaster cares only about exam results, a bunch of excitable sixth-form boys go about their pursuit of the important things: sex, sport and a university place. Desmond Barrit, who played English teacher Hector in 2005 on tour and at the NT, returns to the role for the tour and possible transfer.
