A group of actors assemble near Stratford to mount a production of Hamlet, not knowing it’s a front for the producer’s plans, inspired by Shakespeare’s ghost, to rob the poet’s grave in search of lost plays.
Shamlet is written by Andrew Doyle, whose plays Borderland and War on Muckle Roe have both been produced by Scottish touring company 7:84. The new production is directed by James Robert Carson and designed by David Shields, with lighting by Mark Dymock. In the cast are Debbie Arnold, Andrew Beavis, Gregory Floy, Gráinne Gillis, Maxine Howe, David Janson, Dorothy Lawrence, Leo Richardson, Pauline Shanahan, Tom Walker. David Donegan Ltd produces.
Currently at the King’s Head, the critically panned A Right Royal Farce, journalists-turned-playwrights Toby Young and Lloyd Evans’ latest comedy, finishes its limited six-week season on 27 August (See Review Round-up, 1 Aug 2006).
