Christian Slater ran riot at the Edinburgh Fringe two years ago when One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, in which he starred as rebel RP McMurphy, played at the Assembly Rooms prior to its first West End run (See News, 6 Aug 2004). This summer, the Hollywood bad boy is back in the Scottish capital again – at least in spirit. In Peccadillo Circus, the one-woman show from Lizzie Roper, who played Candy in Cuckoo's Nest, Slater and other cast members from Cuckoo's Nest’s second West End run earlier this year – including Alex Kingston and Paul Ready – feature in a short film that introduces the piece. Recorded Delivery-style, Roper has edited interviews with real people about their sex lives, which she performs verbatim, including every cough, snuffle and throat-clearing, while listening to them through the headphones of her MP3 player. The result is both shocking and deliciously funny, though not for the prim-and-proper brigade.
