Hollywood’s Rob Lowe, formerly of TV’s The West Wing generated headlines last week when, at his press conference for A Few Good Men, he said he couldn’t think of a better time to be making his West End debut in the 1989 play written by West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin (See News, 27 Jul 2005). Declaring that he “adored” London and Londoners, the actor said: “I know there’s been a tremendous cost for supporting my country’s war on terror, which is now the world’s war on terror. I appreciate it and, in my own small way, I want to pay that back.” This week, we understand Prime Minister Tony Blair paid Lowe a surprise backstage visit during rehearsals to thank him for his support for Britain in the wake of the 7 July London terrorist bombings.
