UK theatregoers distressed by the delays in transferring hit Broadway musical The Producers to our shores may take some solace in a television documentary this weekend. Aired on the digital arts channel BBC Four tomorrow, 3 August 2002, at 11.45pm, Songs from The Producers goes behind the scenes of the making of the New York cast recording, featuring performances from the Broadway production’s original stars, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Mel Brooks, who created the 1968 film classic from which the musical is adapted, told the entertainment industry newspaper Variety in June that Lane and Broderick are lined up to reunite for a six-month run in London. However, it looks like that might not now be until late 2003 or early 2004, as opposed to early 2003 when the transfer was originally expected.
