Miss Julie competition

By • West End
Carlisle born Mike Figgis, director of Leaving Las Vegas and The Loss of Sexual Innocence has turned his attention and camera to classic European drama. Written in 1888 August Strindberg s Miss Julie was banned in it s author s homeland, Sweden, because of it s powerful sexual theme. The tension of a flirtation which is charged with passion, money, power and betrayal is as gripping now as it ever was. Saffron Burrows, Peter Mullan and Maria Doyle Kennedy star in the new translation by Helen Cooper. The film goes on general release from September 1.
