Dionne Warwick heads Live at the Hippodrome this August

Soul singer Dionne Warwick will lead a series of one-off performances at the recently-opened Hippodrome casino this August.

The singer, whose 50-year career has included over 60 chart singles, will perform a selection of her hits on 8 August accompanied by a five-piece band. Other performers to feature at the Hippodrome next month include stage star Peter Polycarpou, Scott Evan Davis, Georgia Stitt and Michael Patrick Walker.

Warwick, who is a cousin of Whitney Houston, will perform in London only a few months before the opening of The Bodyguard, based on the 1992 film which starred Houston, and also featuring several of her songs.

Former Donmar Warehouse executive director Nick Frankfort is producing the season of shows, which seeks to evoke the previous life of the Hippodrome as performance space before it reopened as a casino at the beginning of this month.

The Matcham Room, in which these performances will take place, serves food and drink to booths, tables and balcony seats within the performance space.

Future acts confirmed to perform at the Hippodrome include Alexander Armstrong, David Arnold, Jason Robert Brown, composers Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich, Maureen Lipman, John Partridge and Tyne Daly.
