Shrek Musical Goes Green in West End in 2010???

It may have only taken home one Tony Award, for Tim Hatley’s costumes (See News, 8 Jun 2009), but a shortage of trophies isn’t deterring Shrek’s producers from pushed forward with plans for the Broadway screen-to-stage musical’s West End transfer (See The Goss, 15 Dec 2008). According to the Daily Mail, it should open here in late 2010 or early 2011, after the third Shrek film is released next summer.

The stage adaptation of the animated films, about a lonely green ogre who finds happiness with the help of a wise-cracking donkey and a tough-talking princess, is produced by Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Productions and, in the company’s theatrical debut, the Hollywood studio Dreamworks (See News, 15 Oct 2004). Shrek – The Musical premiered to mixed reviews in New York last December. It has a score by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. It’s directed by Jason Moore.
