In our latest Whatsonstage.com Radio programme, Roger Foss visits the north London headquarters of the National Youth Theatre, where NYT members are rehearsing a production of Christopher Hampton's Savages, which opens at the Royal Court Theatre on 26 July 2006 as part of the Court’s year-long 50th anniversary programme.

As the NYT - the world's first-ever youth theatre - celebrates its own 50th anniversary year, Foss meets cast members Sayer Adiz (18) and Josh Azooz (20) and talks to the NYT's co-artistic director Paul Roseby (See News, 29 Mar 2006).

Forthcoming NYT 50th anniversary productions and events also include: Sextet at Soho Theatre (12 August to 2 September), six plays by six writers each focusing on one decade from the 1950s to the present day; a flash mob event in shopping centres parks and public spaces across the UK (10 September), including a spectacular event in Trafalgar Square; and productions of Henry V and Much Ado About Nothing, newly abridged by Arnold Wesker, at Hackney Empire (19 to 23 September). The NYT's very first production in 1956 was Henry V, performed at Toynbee Hall in east London.
