George Stiles and Anthony Drewe have just finished writing their new musical and are in discussions with various producers about when and where to premiere it. Called Soho Cinders, the piece relocates the Cinderella fairy tale to London’s modern-day, metrosexual Soho district. Stiles and Drewe are arguably the most successful British musical-writing team of the past 20 years. Their credits include Just So, Peter Pan, the Olivier Award-winning Honk! The Ugly Duckling and, currently in the West End, Mary Poppins, for which they created new songs to accompany the Sherman Brothers’ existing classics. Ahead of any production of Soho Cinders, they’ll be busy getting Mary Poppins up and running on Broadway, where the Disney-Cameron Mackintosh produced musical receives its US premiere this November.
