Italian Football Fans Too Footloose???

It’s all very well fellow audience members (and, on several occasions, actor Richard Griffiths - See The Goss, 5 Jun 2006) telling people to shush when their mobile phones disturb a performance, but it’s another matter entirely when jubilant Italians celebrate their World Cup victory during a show. Police had to be called to the West End’s Novello Theatre on Monday night to eject a group of 60 Italian students – and their teachers – who spent the entire first act of Footloose noisily celebrating Italy’s footballing triumph by singing victory songs. A spokesperson for the show said: “When they were asked to leave by theatre bosses, they responded ‘We don't have to, we’ve just won the World Cup!’ Subsequently the police were called and the rowdy party were ejected during the interval.” Footloose producer Mark Goucher added: “Luckily, the show is very lively and the cast didn’t realise what was going on. Had I been there, I would have suggested that a good head-butting would have quieted them down!” France’s Zinedine Zidane has presumably been sent an invitation to the show…
