Barbican artistic director Graham Sheffield stuck the knife in to West End producers today. In an article in today’s Guardian, he attacked the commercial West End’s conservatism as opposed to the adventurous and successful programming of BITE (Barbican International Theatre Event). "We are trying not to operate in the middle of the road," he told the newspaper. "It's the adventurous stuff that does better. Whereas in the West End, it's the middle of the road that they have traditionally occupied. But we are doing very well. We do like to think it is something to do with our programming."
