If you’re a fan of Broadway legends – and who isn’t – you should book up for Barbara Cook’s September dates at the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket without delay. Many of Cook’s faithful missed out on the 76-year-old diva’s last London appearance at the Gielgud Theatre in May, when nearly half of her three-week season was cancelled due to ill health (See News, 20 May 2004). She’s coming back to town, for five days only from 7 to 11 September 2004, to open the Haymarket’s new “Singular Sensations” cabaret season, but a report in today’s Daily Mail suggests that these may be her last ever London dates. What a shame that would be.
